My Why?

My birthday is right around the corner, and I find that when Spring hits and my birthday comes, I often take a little personal inventory … so I’d like to share a couple of personal insights with you! I’ve been on this earth almost 52 years and sometimes it feels like I am just getting started … and other times it feels like I’ve been here for centuries. Can you relate? Yet, regardless of how I am feeling in that sense, one thing that never changes, that never gets old or worn out for me, is why I do the work I do. The form of work that I do changes often (I like to change it up all the time and do many different things as you may already know, or you will soon 🙂 But my WHY has stayed consistent through the decades of my career. So, today, shortly before the celebration of my next trip around the sun, I thought I’d share with you a little bit about my WHY. If you are a long-time client, some of this may sound familiar, so bear with me. If you are newer, this may give you a few more insights into who I am and why I do what I do 🙂

When I started my biz, 20+ years ago, it wasn’t intentional; it was more accidental (of course, there are no accidents, but starting a biz was never part of MY plan.) I was a stay-at-home mom, taking care of my two kids and trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted in life. I was content, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I had never really thought of doing anything besides raising my kids. I guess I lived most of my life until then, with my head down, just doing what I was doing. Not really looking forward to what else I could do. I was a mom, so nothing else even crossed my mind. It wasn’t like I had always wanted to be a teacher or a mentor or even an entrepreneur. I really hadn’t even thought of it. I didn’t know what it was that I wanted to do; but I knew that there was more in me, something that needed to be filled, that wasn’t being filled by staying at home and raising my kids. I was doing what I had always been doing and if you were to have asked me what I would LOVE to do, the only thing I knew was that I wanted to help people.

I wanted to help them connect with their Angels and Loved Ones in Spirit.

I wanted to help them understand the Spirit World on a deeper level.

I wanted to help them heal.

I wanted to help them lessen their pain.

I wanted to help them see the Light within themselves.

I wanted to help them love themselves.

I wanted to help them expand and grow.

I wanted to help them know their true value.

I wanted to help them have more joy in their life.

At that time, I really only knew that I wanted to help … and so each day, I did what I was guided.

Every morning, I opened my heart and asked Spirit to guide me in a way that was for the highest good for myself and each person I crossed paths with. As I opened my arms to the possibilities, my business began to grow. I started doing readings and working with hospice, which then expanded quickly into teaching and other areas that I had never even considered. The helper in me (and the codependent) just did whatever anyone asked. I began to listen to what my student and clients’ needs really were, and as I listened, I took that next step.  So, I expanded rather quickly, and my tiny little one-person business did too. I went from readings and hospice to reiki and teaching. That then expanded into speaking and recording CDs. That moved into writing and training others, which eventually moved to Mentoring and Masterminds and lots and lots of travel all along the way.

When I think about the ways I wanted to help way back when, it’s clear to me that I was being guided by Spirit the entire time. I didn’t know it at the time, I was just taking the next step forward. Sometimes, you don’t know what “it” looks like, but you do know how you want to feel … and I wanted to feel connection. I wanted to feel love. I wanted to feel purposeful. And I soooo wanted to feel JOY!

So, when I think about why I do what I do … the biggest part of it is for YOU … My student, my client, my friend. I want to serve you and help you by using the tools that I have learned over my half a century, +almost 2 years of life (holy shit, that’s crazy when I say it that way!) I’ve learned a lot over the years and realize that many of the things that I went through in my life happened not only for my own growth and development but to also serve others. I feel blessed that I have lived a very full, expansive, and often challenging life … it has helped me to grow, to heal, and to LIVE my purpose. I am living the life that I have designed. Even though I didn’t know what it looked like, I always knew what I wanted it to feel like. It feels fabulous and fulfilling and fantastic.

As an entrepreneur, I am able to create my own schedule … and although I do a lot of things and am probably busier now than I have ever been, I get to choose. I get to choose what I want to do, when I want to do it, and how I want to do it … FREEDOM … That’s another part of my why … I LOVE freedom. Now that I have three grandchildren, I am able to create time to spend with them to play hide-n-seek, do homework, take long walks, and pretty soon teach my oldest to drive (holy cow!!)

So, that’s why I do what I do? How about you? What are you passionate about? What is your purpose? What is your why? Are you doing what you want to do? Are you living the life you really desire? And if not … why not? Hit reply and let me know.

And, if you need help, I am here for you.
