I always love the energy of the full moon – well … almost always. Sometimes it gets a bit intense, which is why I ask people that tune into moon energy to let me know, in advance … what to be mindful of. February 9th Full Moon in Leo
February’s Full Moon in the sign of Leo is abundant with the energy of courage; this Moon invites you to revisit forgotten dreams. Time to remove abandoned goals and projects from the back burner and bring them front and center. This moon can help you release barriers to confidence; if you had any doubts about your ability to accomplish your intentions, this is the moon to hand them over to.
Do not fear taking action, be bold and be brave! You were designed for greatness and you’ll never know the extent of your talent if you continue to keep it hidden. If this moon carried with it an overarching theme it would be, “GO FOR IT”! This Moon also allows for deeper connection with intimacy and sexuality. Chase your passion all the way through; this momentum will serve you and can powerfully draw resources to you from the universe if you trust in it.
With every Moon cycle and phase there is also a “shadow element” highlighting potential contrasting energy and lessons within each personality. A Leo Moon can ignite courage and drive; the shadow is stepping on others to get what you want, grasping too hard, and trying to force an outcome. None of those actions lead to a positive outcome. Be mindful and focused and release the ego’s desire; this is not a true calling from the spirit. You can discern the difference in the energy behind it; if lack is present it will never be the higher self or spirit guiding.
The Full Snow Moon in February is named for the time of the heaviest winter snowfall. This is also a time when hunting is more difficult, so it is also known as the Hunger Moon. (Farmer’s Almanac)
Every Full Moon represents the energy of the previous New Moon, two weeks before. The Full Moon also amplifies feelings, emotions, and the subconscious mind. Sometimes our deepest feelings and beliefs surface and feel unfamiliar due to our subconscious repression of them. Meaning, even to us, our innermost understanding of life and our purpose can be concealed. A Full Moon hides nothing and illuminates all.
If you are struggling, employ all you can from your spiritual toolbox. You are not going crazy, simply feeling the inner stir of change and the tug on emotions. Emotion leaving your body may not make logical sense to the mind; be gentle yet dedicated to staying present with your own process of letting go. Remember, releasing creates space for all you wish to divinely design in your life.

Tips for the February 9th Full Moon:
Be direct and clear, even if it seems out of character for you, this Full Moon allows others to recognize the divine intellect behind your words and actions. You will unknowingly collect trust from others, claiming leadership roles with integrity and heart. Sincerity is felt and appreciated; let it escort every move while you daringly say yes to the universal impulses you are called towards. Keep your shadows front and center; mindfulness is key as you stay present and aware. If you have a tendency to overindulge, that may be called to your attention to work through. The body will speak up providing guidance on healthy amounts of food, drink, exercise, self-care and play.
Ways You Can Allow This Full Moon to support you:
- Find out when the moon rise is in your city by going here: http://www.timeanddate.com/moon/
- Gather a pen, paper to write on. Next, find a place where you can see or sense the energy of the full moon. Preferably a comfortable position with the moon in sight.
- Begin to focus on your breath, breathe in deeply for the count of 5 to 10 breaths… each breath in feeling yourself lightening… each breath out, letting go more and more.
- Now bring your awareness to the mental thoughts and feelings of concerns, worry, or stress. Write “ego/mind” on one side of the paper. Underneath this, begin to write out all the negative thoughts or fears that come to mind.
- Take a few breaths… Flip to a new page and at the top write “higher self/spirit”. Now write out everything your higher self has to say about those same thoughts and feeling from a higher perspective.
- Take a few breaths… Ask yourself what you learned from this experience. Take few minutes to acknowledge both sides, the ego/mind and the higher self/spirit and see which one serves you to give more attention to.
- Once you feel complete, say a prayer or statement of gratitude for the lesson.

Full moons are always powerful times for releasing and letting go. Try creating your own ceremony or honoring of this time to embrace the energy that this time has to help you create space in your life for what you truly desire. As always remember, you are not alone in experiencing this phase, be mindful of this when encountering others over these next few days. Send them love as they are also shining a light on themselves and may be extra sensitive during this time. The next full moon is in the sign of Virgo on March 9th, it is known as the Full Worm Moon.
