Love is letting go

Love is letting go

This morning, my family had to let our 2 black lab mix dogs, that we have had for over 14 years, return to the spirit world. It was such a gut wrenching choice, but a choice made with much love and compassion. For several months now, we have known that the time would come to make this decision, as they were both almost completely blind, deaf, and had hip dysplasia and arthritis. For them, just getting up and walking had become tough. So, it was time. We made the appointment, with broken hearts last week.

AS the universe would have it, we woke up this morning to rain, which isn’t real common in Arizona… and our dogs, Brutus and Zainey (brother and sister) love the rain. We woke to them happy and tails a wagging… I thought, maybe we are suppose to keep them for a bit longer, but my spirit said different. My spirit said they were happy, tails waggin because they were ready to go home. To choose new bodies that are healthy, if they so desired, and to play in doggy heaven.

And, so it is with sadness and happiness for their freedom that I write this, asking for prayers for my family, especially my son Crew, who has had these dogs since he was three. It took Brutus less than 10 seconds to transition and Zainey less than a minute. For those of you that have walked this path, I send you my love as well. It was my first experience letting go of a pet, and I hope it will be my last.

What I learned from this experience  that LOVE really is letting go:)

Blessings to all of you who have had to make this heart wrenching decision. ~ Sunny Dawn

That must be why yesterday I had this overwhelming feeling of sadness and began crying with thoughts of ever losing one of our girls. Nothing triggered it. The tears just flowed. Working at the Vet it still never gets any easier seeing another one pass. It simply can bring people to their knees. Know that you are all loved and that we are thinking of you my dear!

    Love,

We have had to enter several of our beloved pets into letting them go to their
Heavenly rest. This was so heart breaking for us but for them it was giving them our love to be healthy and whole again. We missed them terribly, but we know they are having a wonderful time running and playing with our parents and loved one now who are enjoyin theri new lives. Especially today Feb.2, 2008, my Dad’s earthly birthday!

Sunny: I went looking for an old James Herriot quote, when he was asked if dogs go to heaven. What I got for my Google was a page with great dog quotes: http://claytonmethodist.com/dogs.htm. Enjoy.
There is something about the love of a dog or a cat that goes to the heart of us, and the loss of one is one of the most painful and sweet sadnesses we can hope for. May your grief be sweet.

I had to put my shepherd mix down a couple weeks ago due to her being sick for so many years. It was the hardest thing (outside of the recent death of my son). I will never forget what the intake person at the Humane Society told me “remember, you are doing this for HER, not for you.” So true. ((HUGS))
